Tita has been creating artwork all of her life but was not called to pursue a career as an artist until very recently. Feeling like she was barking up the wrong tree with the pursuit of squirrels in her back yard, she has taken up a studio practice which has been quickly gaining recognition within the art community. Since joining the pack at Oyé, she has been pursuing performance art as the culmination of a life spent investigating materials in her everyday walk of life. Following her nose, she is especially drawn to the materiality of ceramic and fiber and has taken on projects specific to these mediums. “A Moment of Paws” is one such piece where Tita tracks a fine layer of red clay dust in and out of the studio building every day. The slow build up of ceramic material allows the viewer an opportunity to consider how he/she/they affect the spaces in their own daily lives. Another performative piece utilizing fiber materials, “Fantástico” involves the dissemination of her own hair. Over time as the Big Ass Fan whirls around in Rey and Genna’s studio, the hair is pulled together by the moving air forming smaller sculptural works comprised of tufts of fur. These tumbleweed like sculptural works allow the viewer to consider the ephemeral nature of life and encourage her audience to live life to the fullest and have as much fun as doggishly possible. Tita is a very “paws on” artist, she generally keeps her materials very close and is rarely found without them. Her lesser known works include heavily masticated tennis balls, periodic sound art works included but not limited to single barks, and , well, naps all over the studio.
